Three tips for easier unpacking: Tip #1

July 26, 2011

We at Good Stuff Moving often share moving and packing tips so today we thought we’d share few tips that will make your life easier when it comes time to unpack! One nice thing about moving to a new home is having a clean slate, so to speak. Empty rooms, empty drawers, and empty closets! This is a great time to get organized and (hopefully) stay that way.

Tip #1:

Pare Down.

Do you have things you never use? How about remote controls that don’t control anything? Clothes you will never wear? Get rid of them! Sometimes people feel guilty getting rid of things, but I’m not talking about tossing them in the trash. There are many great organizations that take used items and re-purpose them for people in need. If you clear out items you never use, you make room for the items that you do use!

  • Sort through clothing and shoes
  • Recycle any mail/magazines you no longer need
  • Donate unwanted books to your local library, or sell to a used bookstore
  • Unused electronics can be recycled or sold

Paring down is a great thing to do before you pack and move, but can also be done as you are unpacking.  You will be surprised by how much space you save by eliminating things you never use!
